Pomegranate attenuates kidney injury in cyclosporine-induced nephrotoxicity in rats by suppressing oxidative stress

Abstract To investigate the effect of pomegranate juice (PJ) on cyclosporine (CsA)-induced nephrotoxicity in rats, 80 rats were divided into four groups. The first group was regarded a negative control group, and others as follows: 2 (CsA group) received CsA dose 25 mg/kg/day orally, 3 (treated plus 2.5 mL/day PJ, 4 (PJ mL PJ daily. By end 21st day, plasma creatinine, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), creatinine clearance, urinary KIM-1, NGAL determined. Histopathological investigation determination malondialdehyde antioxidant enzymes analyzed kidney tissues. results show that BUN, injury molecule-1 neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin significantly altered group. supplement attenuated alteration these parameters. treatment with also prohibits CsA-induced histopathology, lipid peroxidation, enzymes. We can conclude protects against due to its effects.
